8. Securing Freight: Stretch Wrap & Strapping SOP
A pallet is not secure simply because boxes are wrapped together; the freight must be physically locked to the wooden pallet structure so the entire unit moves as one rigid block.
Start wrapping at the very bottom. Make 3 to 4 complete, tight rotations around the wooden deckboards and stringers, locking the lower cartons directly to the pallet wood.
Work your way upward, pulling the film to achieve 50–70% stretch tension. Overlap each preceding layer by at least 50% to prevent band separation during trailer bounce.
Apply 3 tight rotations around the top layer. For weather resistance or dust protection, lay a poly top sheet over the cartons, then overlap the final top film layer over the sheet edges.
